the cry of the starling
on this night of nights a lost
starling sings his lonely song
as a pale moon chases
venus high above the tallest trees
and faint stars transit the unknown
on this night of nights a natural
flame flickers and streams
chain reacting and traveling swiftly
to the four corners of the world
sparked by the cry of the lonely starling
ushering in a brand new light
december two thousand fourteen

Loved this sweet murmuration, John. Fits perfectly with my own Christmas Eve starlings – xo
I must give you credit for this one Kathleen – I wrote this right after reading yours. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hello! 🙂 I’m still on my official blog break, but just dropping by to ask if I could publish your really wonderful poem ‘the cry of the starling’ in a literary magazine I’m creating soon? It will be published on WordPress and free for anyone to view. All credit will go to the original authors and links back to their blog/social media will be given.
I’ve got a great selection of writers work for the first issue, I’m hoping it will be a useful place for readers to find where the good writers are on the internet. It will predominantly be poetry, but will also include some short stories. But if you’d rather not, then please don’t hesitate to say no, I won’t mind.
Hoping your New Year is a good one! 🙂
Hello Suzy and Happy New Year. I’d be honored to be included in your literary magazine. Thanks so much for asking and I’m looking forward to reading your first issue. ;`)
Thank you so much! I shall give you a link, so you can see it when it’s published. No obligation to follow it by the way, it will be a magazine not the a blog as such. Hoping to promote it through Twitter. 🙂
Sounds great. I’ll be happy to promote as well. Thanks again for asking.

Thanks again, Suzy!
I love the flow between each line here – it adds a beautiful mystery to your words. Fabulous imagery.
Thank you so much visiting and commenting on this piece, Chris.
I didn’t see this one before. I feel like this little starling today.
I hope you don’t feel this way for too long, Lola….
