living rent free in the sunroom

there’s a spider
living in the sunroom

there’s plenty of food
underneath the couch

sometimes

I see it racing to & from
as if it’s either
scared of me
or its own shadow

I don’t see any other
insects
in the house

so it must be doing its job
and as long
as it doesn’t bother me
especially in my sleep

then I’m okay
with it living here rent free

but one false move
I swear
that little dude

is out of here

birdhouse

the birds love it here for many reasons
I wonder if they realize
I love them being here as well

they have no need to know my number
and I don’t need to know theirs

sitting in silence is impossible
as long as they’re around
singing & chatting & discussing
how the winds change their views
the shape & sizes of the clouds above
the colors & textures below

on the back deck I am building
yet another birdhouse
they seem to be engaged & learning
imitating the sawing
the hammering
the sanding
applauding after completion
