harnessing dark energy

it resides right there inside your brain
a mini replica of the milky way
super-symmetrical
chaotic & orderly all at once
magically held together via dark matter
gravitationally pulling
your basic instincts
& emotional heartstrings
as if they’re companion stars
interacting within various degrees of light
generating ricocheting ideas
like renegade comets
racing at speeds unimaginable
vaporized trails of fire & ice
sparking logical & imaginative tangents
inside an ever-evolving mind

a time to imagine

when I had no song
I listened to the birds
their effortless imaginings
leaving me in deep thought

when I had no thought
I closed my eyes
imagined where I would be
without a single breath

when I had no breath
I found myself immersed
beneath an endless sea
images of life abounding

nowhere near death

there is a gap
in the back of your mind
call it a door or a window
but do not call it a trap

what’s behind it
is anything you want it to be
the trick is how do you even
come close to it

there is no moat or razor wire
impeding you from entering
& like anything else
there are many ways to reach it
whether legal or criminal
dignified or nefarious
open-sourced or clandestine
expensive or dirt cheap
if not altogether free

if you’re able to get through
& return before you die
bringing back with that which is
unseen & unequivocally invaluable
then you’ll have come closer than ever
to becoming a god

from stardust to conscious thought

you ventured quietly into the night
drifting along cemetery trees
planted three lifetimes ago
long before you belonged to a satellite
orbiting an icy world without a name
only to be blown away by a fiery rock
sending you careening on a trajectory
back toward the sun

alarm clock malfunction

you’re awakening and fully aware
that you are still here
something inside you sends signals
letting you know
another something inside you
is tugging at your skirt

how was it that you watched me
awaken at the birds’ first calls
studying me as as I blinked
open my blue eyes
everyone else in the dream
determining what is brand new

architecting a house of cards

I look at pictures of people
from all across the world
and I see the look in their eyes
and say to myself
they are just like me

and then I am reminded
of a good friend
I’ve not seen in ages
who once told me
how much he admired
the individuality of my mind

from there I imagine
collective thoughts make up
the universe as we know it
and without me pinging
this particular poem
the whole thing could implode
