cult of personality

you bring me closer to a reality
I didn’t know existed
not until you came into my life

I am like a child again
unable to process my own convictions
instead relying on your godlike
intelligence to show the way

there is a door
and you open it (for me)
there I appear like clockwork
walking through it
giving thanks as I do
to your magical powers

lead me lead me lead me
show me the path of righteousness
and deliver unto me your ways

if you tell me to love
then I will love
if you tell me to hate
I will hate
if you tell me to go to war
to war I will go
and never look back

reverse psychology

on opening day
vegas future odds
for winning the world series
has the chicago cubs
at eighty to one
the same as the pirates
and the mariners
and right behind
the new york mets

wish I could say
I’ve got the fever
but now into my fifth decade
of blindly following
the lovable ones
I’ve since grown jaded
often pondering
if there is more to life
than mere losing

devotion

she works with fierce loyalty
gathering meals from fields
carried on her hind legs and
fed to the developing brood

inside the critical chamber
she sprinkles water in the air
fluttering her wings to regulate
a perfect temperature

having neither time nor energy
to consider her own demise
she again leaves the hive
to ensure her queen’s legacy
