I love the way she speaks to me
when the light is just right
the color of her eyes
transitioning from blue to bright

she wraps her arms around mine
like a skintight sleeve
vibrant and indelible
sinfully striking yet naive

no pain is greater than her mark
engraved upon my hide
forever reminding me
artistry shan’t ever be denied

bedtime stories

pretend you slip into my slacks
one leg at a time
button my newly ironed shirt
from bottom button to top

you get frustrated with yourself
because you can’t seem
to get the bloody dimple square
on the regimental tie

the silent alarm suddenly
signals half past eight
you lie awake forever late
to next week’s meeting

the reverie shakes you alive
screaming in your sleep
i hate you i love you i hate
the way the story ends

may i have this dance

there is a place beyond the horizon
where the moon bounces off the waves
and creatures of the deep
reveal themselves for all to see

there is a place beyond the sea
where stars are reborn
time and time again
giving new meaning to eternity

there is a place within your heart
forever caring
forever evolving
and forever trying to quiet
the madness from within

there is a place outside this world
where we will meet again
where the orchestra is perfectly refined
and we hold on for our dear lives
as we dance forever into the night

the dream of the butterfly

when i was a butterfly
i floated with the best of them
from country meadow
to urban garden
my world an eternal adventure
of technicolor and sound

when i was a butterfly
children chased me with their nets
but my keen instincts
evaded their hopes
of ever capturing the beauty
forever felt in their hearts

when i was a butterfly
every day was like a dream
of first impressions
repeating themselves
toward an expanding evolution
of psychedelic freedom

after the thrill is gone

i imagined
what it would be like
to be alone eternally
without a soul
in the world
to share life’s
finest moments

as my thought
began to dwindle
into nothingness
she kissed me
atop my forehead
and whispered sweetly
the thrill is gone

sunset

faces of friend and foe
come and go
but i must live on
using my own eyes
to scan the universe
and examine my soul

i hear of things
both good and bad
from those i think i know
but i am not to judge
what is not mine
for i must deal
with eternity
on my own terms

i imagine what happens
in three dimensions
will take on new meaning
once riding my pale horse
off into the sunset

Chrysalis

I had lost strength
after traveling so far
past the Nile Basin
and into the unknown

A sip from an ancient flower
tasted like perfection
numbing my legs
and sending my mind
into the night sky
where I was greeted
with weightlessness and peace

Throughout the night
I envisioned weaving
up the tallest tree
whose succulent branches
encouraged me to reach the top

Amble in my sleep
I pitched a tent
and watched the world fly by

I awakened to a dazzling
white sky with rainbow clouds
and golden snowcaps
my newfound perspective
exactly like the dream

For centuries I flew across
idle fields with virgin springs
until finally tiring a second time

Forever in a Day

Fast asleep by midmorning
I dream of never waking
of sailing past an open sea

My shell is like a water vessel
blending into the horizon
melting into a fiery sun

Transforming into nature
I stay awake forever
casting hope into a dark night
