rumors

everything was calm
before the winds arrived
having traveled
from faraway places
bringing with it
hearsay & innuendo
and a little bit of destruction

whatever it was it didn’t
last long
and days later it seemed
as if nothing had happened
seemed as if
what was left behind
had been here all along

Smile Honey

I told the waitress
I like my steak
medium rare
turned just once
and bloody pink inside

She smiled
and walked away
the bounce in her
step a bit livelier
than when she arrived

My companion
was not amused
quick to remind me
I wasn’t the one
working on tips
