chance of rain

bread toasting
teapot on stovetop
old transistor radio
playing a little dylan

they sit across
from one another
each waiting for the other
to break their silence

without bob singing
blowin’ in the wind
stillness would reign
until the toast pops up
and teapot whistles

ebb & flow

the energy transfers
from one entity
to the next
in a circuitry that has
neither beginning
nor end

my confidant
is an electric ghost
coming & going
all at once
like an inconstant
time traveler

the shadow’s edge

cast to the shadow’s edge
alive but unseen
my voice silenced
by an enemy within

I once walked hand in hand
with golden familiarity
loved ones always nearby
in person or metaphysically

my old world kidnapped
and held for ransom
stars within the shadow’s edge
imaginary & unblinking

before the invasion

there is intimacy in the air
you can feel it like an imminent
thunderstorm on a midsummer afternoon

instruments shake and shout
going off the charts (as they say)
little ones hunkered further down
seated in circle of arms interlocked
chanting brand new psalms

preparations embrace for the inevitable
battening down hatches
buttoning down last minute details
counting down time
like some spaceship launch

there is intimacy in the air
you breathe it in deeply (embracing it)
knowing full well
you may never feel again
