instead it just hangs there

a poem shares no secrets
rather confides & confesses
leaving in its wake
no unsolved mysteries

after the river receded
so did the mysteries
it once carried

I used to confess my sins
but there were far too many to count
and after a time I swore
allegiance to seeking only truth

once the river pulled back
I counted the pieces left behind
picking up one here & there

the pieces I kept in a satchel
hanging somewhere
I could easily retrieve
but I left them there undisturbed

if ever I wanted to
I could open & look inside
that satchel hanging somewhere

reconciling improbabilities

there was an explosion
a single sonic boom
and then there was fire

a thousand years
is nothing
a thousand ten-fold
or one hundred times
a thousand times
it’s all the same

it’s impossible to go back
to the beginning
or is that a fallacy
an old wives’ tale

the elixirs & the medicine
celebrations of birth
coinciding with the bad
and the ugly
what could be much worse

the iterations
propelled by the sun
capable of producing
improbable uncertainties

like in the case of jacob’s dream
a ladder lowering itself
—the heavens high above

unsolved and theoretical

there’s nothing mysterious about your
inner instincts
how they sometimes take complete
control of your thought pattern
and subsequent actions
leaving you wondering in the end
exactly how you got from
point A to point B
in a matter of mere milliseconds
