Emily

—dedicated to my paternal grandmother who I never met

None of this makes sense
we are all machines
with parts that wear out

Although on a higher level
there is more to the mechanisms
than meets the eye

Art will not save the planet
but it may [theoretically]
outlive it
circulating in means
unimaginable

If Emily could hear you now
she would be a perfect
lady in waiting
no longer sickly
nor not wanting you around
but rather willing & able
to start all over again

second chances

a girl is giving birth
sounds from her inner self
brand new & beautiful
like those of a songbird

she breathes like she was
taught to breathe
mending her own broken heart
so that others may live

charity knows no bounds
this she firmly believes
finding second chances
in the eyes of another

return of the stuntman

I almost died a few times
and each time
I came back with a flurry
swinging my arms and
bobbing and weaving
like a boxer skylarking
inside the ropes

whatever doesn’t kill you
makes you stronger
isn’t always the case
but when it is this grandiose
notion sets in
that nothing can defeat you
not even death
