the dream of the butterfly

when i was a butterfly
i floated with the best of them
from country meadow
to urban garden
my world an eternal adventure
of technicolor and sound

when i was a butterfly
children chased me with their nets
but my keen instincts
evaded their hopes
of ever capturing the beauty
forever felt in their hearts

when i was a butterfly
every day was like a dream
of first impressions
repeating themselves
toward an expanding evolution
of psychedelic freedom

  1. Butterflies are reminders that beauty is ephemeral and happiness is experienced best in short bursts~ Great reminder!

  2. A butterfly is always a great inspiration, isn’t it? lovely..especially their connection to the children..

  3. If I was a butterfly I’d be bright orange – don’t know why – just would πŸ™‚ nice poem JDubya πŸ™‚

  4. When I was younger I thought of myself as a fly trapped inside a car. Wondered often if I would crash at the rear window if the car started moving while I was was flying steady. hahaha

Silly me! You reminded me of those silly moments with this poem!

  5. Loved the last stanza..a stand-alone πŸ™‚

Lovely poem. Enjoyed the work. Especially last two lines of middle stanza “of ever capturing the beauty/ forever felt in their hearts”, this needs delicate insight!!! Kudos.
