saturday in the park
sitting on a bench in green square park
one saturday morning
I detected so many ghosts
walking about
the first day of summer
was just a stone’s throw away
and the nine o’clock sun
tried to burn the foggy images
out of my mind’s eye
some wandered alone aimlessly
some marching in groups of two
or three or more
some pretending they really had no business
being here
while yet others carried bags
or pushed empty strollers
hoping to find ways to fill them
at the nearby city gardens
I spotted little ones sniffing
red roses
that always came back to life this time of year
I leaned back and marveled
at how all of the ghosts
managed to travel through time and space
just to revisit opening day
at this year’s farmers’ market
june two thousand thirteen

We see ghosts everyday and all around…they are still sleep…unawakened. Excellent Matt!
Thank you so much, Gavriel. I hope you are doing well, my friend.
Always good and content Matt, I am always happy when I visit your page, you are one of a kind poet! I enjoy reading your lines and listening your recordings. You need to put this on video, perhaps I could help… 😉
So many people go through the motions of life but are spiritually dead; so sad. Very astute; your words paint pictures of hidden emotions.
Thank you so much, Theresa. I very much agree with your thoughts.
I love the genial sadness underlying the observations. Thank you for sharing this!
Tess – thanks so much for visiting here again and sharing your thoughts….
