some kind of way out of here
in the archives
they let me spend my time
weaving tales of prison breaks
not even the watchtower
can contain
this life inside
the loneliest place on earth
would break the common man
but here I sit and sail away
stealthily
once a month
I wander the yard and chat
with all the pretty young ladies
who stopped writing me
years ago
in my mind
I lived out my days in paradise
where the flowering perennials
rooted before the breach
still flourish
june two thousand thirteen

This is sad but somehow gives the feeling that there was once a lively soul here. Is this a prisoner of hearts?
not sure about “prisoner of heart” but perhaps. some come to terms more easily than others regarding reconciling mistakes made in the past, thank you for making me think about this some more.
Sometimes it’s easier to visit our mistakes and make reparations in our hearts and souls than in reality. Thought-provoking and ultimately sad piece. I really enjoyed it!
I’m glad you enjoyed this piece, Kim. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.
