back to california

after the apocalypse
let’s plan on moving
back to california

the place may be smoldering
but what else is new
and real estate should be dirt cheap
if not downright up for grabs

I imagine somewhere along the beach
would be a good place
to set up camp
from there we can watch the sun
die into the ocean
night after night after starlit night

resetting the calendar to zero

this world inside a world
is swelling and threatening
to burst open an entirely new
third order onto the scene

it’s easy to slip in and out
of the lesser world
fraught with deplorables
running exercises inside sewers
checking for daylight through
cracked concrete and faulty plugs

skyscrapers rise and fall
crashing and burning at
unrealistic velocity and power
potters and mad scientists
continuing to reconstruct

once this world inside a world
begets the new third order
there will be an unimaginable peace
only a few will come to understand

remake

there’s nothing new
going on around here
except for elvis and jesus
walking the streets again

everywhere around the globe
people are revolting
while special forces make sure
they’re in on the action

the price of oil fluctuates
like the unpredictable warming
giving rise to speculation
the end is already here
