the boy prince & the wizard’s wife

chances are you would find
her in the cookery
usually a big black pot
on the largest stovetop burner
control knob set to simmer

on this day she would turn
me into a frog or toad
or maybe it was a salamander
my self-imposed mission
to set out alone in the cold cold world
to see if was possible
for anyone to love me

when you kissed me so sweetly

lost in the moment
tree frogs & cicadas
fine-tuning their evening song
the first star appearing
in the darkening ceiling
—worlds far away far from motionless

what were you thinking (if anything)
when you kissed me so sweetly

jealousy

it was only a kiss
[oh what a kiss will lead to]
something I wish
I’d never saw
something stuck in a dream

I only dream
I only dream
the same dream now
and I’m sure it must be killing me

the kiss & the dress
the drag of the cigarette

as the song goes on
so does the kiss
—slipping off her dress

Note: Based on the song “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers

transit kiss

waves created from a kiss
blown from the palm of my hand
transverse through space
in a spherical spin
attracting electrons and positrons
in twin phase arrangements
before completely absorbed
deep into your skin

one last kiss

i dreamed the new year
never arrived
and i was left on the shore
listening to the moon
kissing the sea

as i walked along
a restlessness stirred
within
reminding me
you are always near

One Last Kiss

She blew me a kiss
and I snatched it
out of thin air
– like I always do
told her if only
it wasn’t the last one
I’d be a billionaire
