this hunger

my gut tells me there’s
something missing – a pain
that won’t go away

i make-believe
there’s food in the cupboard
and scurry to get out
the paper plates and plastic forks

while enjoying the meal
i pretend it is my final one
and pray this hunger
will finally pass

  1. There are various kinds of hunger. Although vague, you capture the reader’s want at the moment. Thank you for this poem. 🙂
