poetry by j matthew waters

protecting the witness

my innermost thoughts
became stolen and plastered
all over the web
my complex passwords compromised
for any novice hacker
to copy or cut and paste

within milliseconds
my childhood story went viral
via black and white videos
forcing me to step off the grid
and start a new life
as someone I once knew

july two thousand thirteen

  1. This really happened? Sometimes don’t know what is poetic license but it feels real and awful and like such a violation. Am so sorry if people hurt you through the internet. Am feeling that pain with you.

    • Oh no, Maggie, I am quite all right. This poem is purely fiction and represents all that is going on in the world with online bullying, identity theft, electronic surveillance, etc. I hope all is well with you!

  2. I know it may be politically incorrect but if anyone attacks me online I enjoy fighting back. Words can be quite brutal when aimed at an unsuspecting bully.

I was introduced to the cyber-world in the old Newsgroups *grin*
