it’s sometime in August and it’s rained for days
alone I sit in the sunroom
wondering when in the world
I’ll see the light of day
or mow the yard
or ride my bike
or snap photograph
after photograph
in the once colorful garden
in the meantime
ruby-throated hummingbirds
feast on homemade nectar
the feeder hanging beneath the eave
the rain not stopping them
from coming and going
as they damn well please
august two thousand sixteen

Thank you very much for reblogging this poem on your wonderful blog!
John, I enjoyed this and can picture you in your sunroom overlooking the garden ~ sounds lovely. I would welcome some rain here ~ it’s been hot and humid in NY with temps above 90’s! 🙂
Thank you, Loredana. We have similar weather but from what I understand rain is finally on its way. Have a wonderful weekend!
That sounds almost Southern Hemispherical. I have been rained on for days on end! Our equivalent birds are honey eaters and they are having a ball with the pre-spring flowering of our native plants 🙂
Life goes on regardless of what’s happening to us..
yes we must move on, regardless
Lethargy might be fine, but never for a hummingbird.
