REM Sleep

I told everyone we were married
that you were my wife
that we had met on a rainy night
somewhere in paradise
and it was love at first sight

Although none of this is true
her image forever remains
stamped in my mind
projected on ceilings and walls
as I hopelessly roam
from room to room
in my futile attempts
to bring her back into my life

march two thousand nineteen

This is so clever — how the title seems out of place — which makes REM sleep your love interest, the “woman” you chase. That’s how I read it, anyway. The pronoun shift makes it all the more interesting.

  2. interesting read…if only dreaming could make it so
but then again I’m happy many of my dreams are not reality!
