poetry by j matthew waters

nineteen sixty-nine

how do I reinvent that which is gone
nothing but a memory
vaguely lingering
wanting but not wanting to be revived
brought back to life
oh it seems to be one of those
talk me into or talk me out of

no normal old or new ever existed
and the more you think about it
the more you realize
everything is relative
no length of time ever goes by
without some sort of turmoil
except of course
the summer of twenty fifteen
or 1969

april two thousand twenty
