My mother loved baseball
Judith Mary Waters, née Doyle (1936-2025)
My mother loved baseball
which is why I do as well
She used to listen to the Cubs games
on KSTT AM radio when she
was a tomboy growing up in Davenport
When I was in little league
she was my team’s scorekeeper
All the way through high school
I don’t remember her ever missing
any of my games
If there is one thing most people
didn’t know about my mother
is that she batted left-handed
For whatever reason
I truly admired her for that
