effectively wild

I’m not interested
in your conspiracy theories
I’m mainly focused
on craft beer & baseball

although your fantasies
are intriguing
I’m spending the bulk
of my time
stealing signs &
putting runners in motion

although I admit your
methods are effectively wild
my free time is spent
at the nearest taproom
watching the board
& seriously considering
trading on paper

counting down to the solstice

this poem has nothing to do with
conspiracy theories
we’ll leave those to the privileged few
who specialize at passionately
passing along the blame

if it didn’t start in someone’s
reconfigured kitchen in wuhan
then it may as well have started
in a meth lab outside of ottumwa iowa
a place where bat sacrifices
are uncommonly documented

[I keep telling myself I’m not planning
on visiting either place anytime soon]

in the meantime the sun keeps setting
earlier & earlier every other day
leaving me thinking eventually
natural light will be a thing of the past
adding more fuel to the conspiracy fire

in the line of fire

or so it seems these extreme times
call for a new way of thinking
conspiracy theories superseding
previous thought processes
causing your world to shrink
and your mind to expand
further than previously thought possible

it’s come to a point where rationality
is further from any reality
where every little fact of life
every tidbit of information
has somehow turned against you
and you find your back up against a wall
unlit cigarette sticking out of your face
