Burning Man

What have I become
Johnny Cash once questioned
covering a commercially popular
Nine Inch Nails song

Reviewing the haunting video
I can taste his inevitable demise
feel his sense of desperation
and hopelessness
lingering in my blood and bones
leaving me empty inside
questioning my own reality

What will I become Mister Cash
once I’ve followed your lead
will my empire of dirt burn eternally
somewhere other than here on earth

ultra echo

self-inflicted physical pain
is nothing compared to
once abandoned realities
appearing out of the thinnest of air
unfurling into razor-sharp focus
and leaving you crippled
and crying
and praying for the comfort
of that long lost world
inside a world
inside a world
inside a world

landslide

for centuries the sloping hill
produced a bouquet of artistry
sewn into the grass
and handpicked by flower children

an annual blizzard blanketed
the hill and invited participants
to hasten up and down
using any means possible

as the city slowly crawled outward
leaving concrete in its wake
the sloping hill cried
shaking and moaning and hurting

the forward motion gradually
violated the internal integrity
of her existence
until one day without warning
she simply sailed away
