before the winds do

I thought I heard something
but it was just the wind
I think she said
sitting in the living room

I perked up and turned down
the baseball on TV
started to listen in
like one of those creeps

repetitive silence ensued
followed by curious winds
sneaking in
through the attic vents

rushing in I reached out
begging her to take
my hand
before the winds do

  1. Those sneaky winds can steal more of your valuables than you think.

  2. “rushing in I reached out
    begging her to take
    my hand
    before the winds do”

well said made me envision a twister coming to take you away…and you hand on to your ladies hand to stay grounded.

  4. love this, John – the last stanza is really really good – K

  5. was able to visualize this. somehow don’t find this creepy. but it was beautiful and touching

  6. I READ THIS FIRST THEN I LISTENED,,,,WOW, YOUR READING IS REALLY VERY POWERFUL. I OFTEN FIND MYSELF SILENTLY BEGGING FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE THE LEAD BEFORE I DO. WHATS INBETWEEN MY EARS HAS A TENDANCY TO BETRAY ME.

  7. So happy you enjoyed this one, LaToya…it seemed to come out of nowhere.
