california breaking away

and finally the fires extinguished
themselves
giving way to rains and
eventually floods
chasing ants and jesus freaks
to higher ground

and from the heavens angels
watch amusingly
as noah takes up residence
outside beverly hills
repairing his ark
gradually garnering attention

  1. I like how real life events are incorporated in this wonderful poem. So happy the fires have diminished!

  2. Amazing, amazing, amazing!

  3. Great poem, John! We live an hour away from the fires, so we’re not directly affected. But they’re in an area that we go all the time, truly beautiful. We’ve dealt with smokey air, but watching the devastation and loss on the news has been so heartbreaking. We actually have rain now, so tomorrow’s news should be brighter. Yet, the recovery time for all of the victims is going to be a long one…
