poetry by j matthew waters

when societies collide

we prayed for rain
and the return of electricity
in no particular order

days and then weeks
slowly passed by
the days of flooding
suddenly long forgotten

strangers collide
for the good of the
greater order
refreshingly showing
humanity’s true colors

july two thousand nineteen
