Over & Under the Radar

I’ve been losing my way of late
unlocking out of place doors with a
skeleton key I won on ebay

It isn’t exactly like I’ve turned
into Alice or moved to Wonderland
but there’ve been occasions
I’ve been lucky to find
my way back to the drawing board

And there I sit sketching new ideas
drawing a sky full of doors
without keyholes
the boy down below
pointing upwards & ever hopeful

break on through

a door closes another one opens
leaving you standing there
more concerned with what
you may have missed
rather than moving forward

you tell yourself there are flowers
behind the closed door
beautiful & bright & sporting
all the colors of the world

if you had only clipped them
before it was too late
you could have passed them on
to those you admire most

the only screams you hear
are from the inside
overwhelming the messages
streaming through the open door

behind closed doors

golden skeleton key
wrapped around your neck
designed to unleash spontaneity
while keeping the monsters at bay
magically vanishes in the feckless wind

inside the madhouse demons slash
and poke with razors and needles
fingerpainting false memories on
invisible doors and lasering
new keyholes with a blazing white light
